Journey Through Science Inventors & Entrepreneurs

Explore the world of science through hands on learning!

Journey Through Science is an immersive summer camp designed to ignite a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in young minds. Our camp offers an exciting and interactive learning environment where participants engage in hands-on experiments, exploration, and collaborative projects. We aim to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of scientific concepts.

Campers embark on a thrilling journey as they delve into various scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science.

We will help guide them through a series of engaging experiments and demonstrations, encouraging campers to explore, question, and discover the wonders of the natural world.

Whether it’s designing sustainable energy solutions, developing methods to purify water, or creating inventions to improve people’s lives, campers will learn how science can be a powerful tool for positive change

Some of the scientists we may discuss:

  • Galileo Galilei
  • James Clerk Maxwell
  • Rachel Carson
  • Dmitri Mendeleev
  • Rosalind Franklin
  • Alan Turing
  • Edwin Hubble
  • Francis Crick
  • Niels Bohr
  • Leonardo da Vinci
  • Johannes Kepler
  • Alexander Fleming
  • Albert Einstein
  • & many others!

Activities for the day:

  • Students will use the scientific method and create their own hypotheses.
  • Students will learn the science behind the art of cooking.
  • Importance of nutrition and how it effects the body.
  • Student led science experiments
    • Mentos explosion experiment – see which soda shoots the highest geyser and why.
    • Learn about the body and biology through experiments that simulate the body and its function.
  • Cooking – students will make their own lunch
  • Outdoor free play sports, soccer, tug-a-war, relay races, water balloon and super soaker war for teams / territories
  • Nature hike and student lead nature identification
  • Identify specimens under microscopes
  • Water collection / testing – Is it safe to swim in? Drink? What lives in the waterways in the area? Where does our water come from?
  • What is electricity? How do we see electricity in nature?
  • Explore how electricity is generated, transmitted, and distributed to reach every corner of our neighborhoods
  • Tinker with different sources of electricity – solar, motors, etc.
  • Try experiments and see what chemical reactions and you can create! (under safe, direct supervision of course!)
This theme was created to foster and help the children learn the following skills:
  • Social:

    • Confidence, leadership, self-discipline, physical fitness. Working together in teams and solving problems. Working together in teams and solving problems through healthy dialectical debates. Responsible decision-making, self-awareness, relationship skills, self-management, social awareness.
  • Educational:

    • Trivium: Logic and rhetoric are used as students discuss science topics. Logic, grammar, and rhetoric are used as students debate the problems and present solutions.
    • Quadrivium: Sciences, arts, humanities, and history are discussed as students think about science in these areas.
